Further Notes

Stranton (excl.) - point of deviation from 1840 line RO - c.1848-51.

ACD - unknown. Exact location of Hartlepool (S&H) (2nd) unknown. RPSGB suggests the second station was a temporary terminus on "the west side of South St." This would put it in close proximity to the "third", 1853 station. As the line, according to Cobb, from Newburn Jct. was not opened until 1852, presumably in connection with the construction of the 1853 station, a temporary terminus on this site could not have existed. The inferred sequence would be Hartlepool (S&H) (1st) - 1841-c.1846 - see Stranton (excl.) - Hartlepool (S&H) (1st); Stanton (temp.) - c.1846 - c.1848-51; Hartlepool (S&H) (2nd) - c.1848-51 - 1853; Hartlepool (3rd) - c.09/1853 - 01/05/1880 finally with the opening of the present, fourth, station.
