ACD - Mon 03/12/1855 - RPSGB. C, CPLGB p22, DRS all give Thu 30/09/1852. This was the date the new line linking through to Bransty was opened, but the station there was inadequate for the additional traffic. Services to/from S continued to use Newtown station until improvements at Bransty were completed, and a new station opened at Corkicke, from 03/12/1855. See RHRGB Vol.14 The Lake Counties p151.
**Whitehaven (Newtown) commonly referred to as Preston Street, a name officially adopted in 1860 when in use as a goods station.
