Further Notes
ACD - ?/01/1869 - See RPSGB p531 and Map 34.
Considerable doubt and confusion reigns over the exact closure date. RSPGB suggests that the logical closure date would coincide with the opening of the new mainline via Low Fell from 01/12/1868, and this date is quoted in DRS.
C quotes Jan 1869 as "last appearance in timetable" along with footnote "terminus, shewn in Bradshaw but not official tt". A similar caveat appears in RPSGB p531. CPLGB does not record this section of line, suggesting it was not deemed to be a "public service" railway.
Further investigation reveals considerable contradiction and confusion over station opening and closure dates and station names e.g. Chester-le-Street v Durham Turnpike - some publications show these as separate stations, others as the same.
Research continuing!
Further information/clarification most welcome.
