Further Notes
ACD - Mon 20/06/1870.
No record of the OCD for this section of line has been identified, but it is assumed it closed to regular passenger services with the opening of the W-N curve from Abergavenny South Curve Jct. - Abergavenny MT&A Jct.
The waters are muddied by the fact that Cobb erroneously shows the original Abergavenny Junction (LNW) station on the W-N curve, the opening date for the station being shown as 1864 and the curve 1870! Also the Wikipedia entry for Abergavenny Junction station refers to North and South to East curves when they should read West.
RPSGB confirms the location of the first Abergavenny Junction station as being at the South Jct., being resited N of MT&A Jct. to coincide with the opening of the W-N curve. RHRGB Vol.12 South Wales p74 lends support to this.
Obviously, a degree of assumption is involved here. Any information to clarify (or contradict!) most welcome.
