Further Notes
ACD - Tue 01/07/1879 - CPLGB p53; RPSGB.
Glasgow (South Side) was a joint Glasgow Barrhead & Neilston Direct (later CR/G&SWR joint) and CR station, serving Barrhead and Motherwell respectively. The station was demolished to allow construction of the line from Langside Jct. - Gorbals Jct. and forward to Glasgow (St. Enoch). Construction of the CR line from Larkfield Jct. - Glasgow (Central), allowing closure of South Side CR, was also commenced about this time. During the period from closure, through demolition and construction, temporary platforms were provided either side of the site to allow services to continue to operate. The exact location of these platforms is not known. Consequently, there may well have been a minor variation from the original line of route during this period.
I have reproduced two maps, showing the layout before and after reconstruction, for clarity.
Interesting to note that the group of buildings just below the letter 'N' of 'FIFTEENTH' on the lower map, when compared to the same location on the upper map, suggest some of the original terminus buildings survived the reconstruction.
See Langside Jct. - Glasgow (South Side) (GB&ND).
