**There appears to be conflicting information as to the exact location of the first Sherburn House station. Cobb, RPSGB and NER Historical Maps all show the location to be several chains along the Shincliffe Town branch from the junction with the Durham (Elvet) branch. However, the 1857 six-inch OS map clearly shows it, "Sherburnhouse Station", sited immediately W of the A181 bridge. When the NER extended the line to Durham (Elvet) in 1893, a new station was constructed on this branch, slightly to the W of the first station. BRS entry for Sherburn House station shows this location, which is also echoed in the Wikipedia entry for the station.
