Southport (Ash St.) station was resited to the east of the road bridge to facilitate the remodelling of the layout to allow a connection from the Preston line to the Southport (Chapel St.) line. Southport (Ash St.) was closed from 01/06/1902, effectively replaced by St. Lukes.
RM April 1901 p375: 'From April 1st the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway will withdraw from Southport (Central) six trains each way daily, that have previously used the Central Station. These trains will in future arrive at and depart from the Chapel Street Station, Southport'.
