Further Notes
ACD - Sun 01/03/1903 - CPLGB p60, DRS, RHRGB Vol.6 Lowlands p286. RPSGB gives Mon 02/03/1903 which, given no Sunday service appears to have been in operation, seems the more likely date. Furthermore, Rails to Portpatrick, Stephenson 1976 p157 states "The trains ceased at the end of February 1903", the 28th being a Saturday.
This highlights the practice adopted by most railway companies at the time of closing lines from the first day of a given month, regardless of the day of the week or the pattern of service operating.
*RCH Sc 1895. Mileage from Millisle station.
**Following closure of the Garliestown branch, Millisle ("exchange") station was relocated approximately 7c SE of junction to site of the 1875 station (originally named Garliestown prior to opening of line to Garliestown (2nd) on 03/04/1876).
RM April 1903 p350: "Since February 28th the Garliestown branch of the Portpatrick and Wigtownshire Joint Railway has been closed for traffic. Passengers for the village are now conveyed by road from Millisle Station."
