Further Notes
ACD - Mon 03/04/1916. LTR - Sat 01/04/1916. As there was no Sunday service, (see quote below), the 'on and from' date would be the following Monday.
"As regards the Smithfield curve used by L.C.D.R. trains to Moorgate Street, the Sunday service ran for the last time on September 28, 1913 and the weekday service on Saturday, April 1, 1916. Therefore, as and from April 2, 1916, the curve was not used." - RM Aug 1961 p533 'The "Chatham" Connection to Moorgate'.
This is an interesting quote and highlights, once again, the confusion that can surround closure dates. A pedant might argue that what the article states is technically correct, but it implies a closure date ("as and from") the Sunday. I suspect this is reflecting a Southern Railway practice (and therefore presumably its predecessors) of quoting a Sunday as the OCD regardless of whether a Sunday service was operating at the time.
For good measure, CPLGB quotes Holborn Viaduct LL to Snow Hill Jct. (aka Smithfield Jct. (SE)) also as closing on 02/04/1916, but omits to record the line to Smithfield Jct. (Met), or indeed to Farringdon Jct., just to confuse matters further. SRCR p58 also quotes 02/04/1916 as the 'on and from' closure date.
