N.B. The exact location of Brampton Town station is not certain. Given its history with a horse-drawn 'dandy cart' service, it is unlikely a station as such originally existed. Prior to reopening in 1913 the NER spent some money upgrading the facilities whereby "the line.....was relaid, and there was a new goods warehouse constructed. A reasonable booking office, separate waiting room and a run-round loop.....were also built" - The Newcastle & Carlisle Railway G Whittle D&C 1979 p162/3. The track layout on other maps suggest the final station site was where the 'staith' was originally located, as shown on the map above, which pre-dates the improvement works. Some detective work on the only two photographs so far identified tend to support this theory. Cobb shows the station located on the S side of the road. The grid reference in British Railway Stations Since 1901 Unique Books 2022 gives the location as facing W towards Brampton town. Any further information most welcome.
