Further Notes
OCD to passenger services not yet identified. Any additional information/clarification most welcome.
RM 1957 'The Junctions at Methley' p281 states: "After the withdrawal of the North Eastern Railway service from Leeds to York via Methley, the portion of the Methley branch between Methley Joint Junction and Methley Junction fell into disuse for passenger services, but the track was not finally removed until 1943".
This implies a 'closure' date to passenger services pre-1923.
Cobb shows complete closure as 1929 (hence the putative date shown) and RR NE151 confirms this.
This section of line was reinstated in 1967 in anticipation of the closure of Methley Jct. - Cutsyke Jct. and the diversion of the Leeds - Castleford - Knottingley - Goole services via Castleford (Central) - RO 07/10/1968. This included, of course, the section of line from the site of Methley Joint (NE) Jct. - Whitwood Jct., (see Lofthouse North Jct. - Whitwood Jct.). However, the exact course of the line to the original NE/MR Methley Jct. was not followed, but realigned to meet the Normanton - Leeds line at the site of the former L&YR/MR junction - RR NE151. See also BLN 113 04/09/1968.
