Further Notes

ACD - Thu 03/10/1940, due to bomb damage at St. Quintin Park & Wormwood Scrubbs.

The following appears in RHRGB Vol 3 Greater London D&C 1987 p135 - "(Due to bomb damage) The advertised steam services ceased (Clapham Junction - Kensington (Addison Rd.)) on 20 October 1940 and the electric ones, LMS from Willesden and LT, now from Edgware Road, via Westbourne Park, on 3 and 20 October respectively."

PNM states Kensington (Addison Road) - Willesden Junction closed 20/10/1940.

RPSGB states (under entry for St. Quintin Park & Wormwood Scrubbs station) "destroyed by fire 3 October 1940 (Cl) - but wtt supp says closed 21 October 1940 - 'official' clo or had some sort of patched service run until then?"

DRS states (under entry for St. Quintin Park & Wormwood Scrubbs station) "CL 3 October 1940 (last train), 1 December 1940 (official)."

DSW states line closed on and from 03/10/1940 due to bomb damage.

C LNWR Ch. gives 03/10/1940, but with no reason stated.

Given the conflicting information, what is clear is that the lines from Willesden No.1 (West London) Jct. - Uxbridge Road Jct. and Willesden High Level Jct. - Mitre Bridge Jct. were closed due to bomb damage on 3 October 1940 and likewise the line from Latimer Rd. Jct. - Ludgate GW Jct./Clapham Junction on 20 October 1940.

Until evidence emerges to clarify this, closure dates recorded here are ACD.

West London Jct. - Uxbridge Road Jct./(Clapham Jct.) RO - Mon 12/05/1986.

*Willesden No.1 (West London) Jct. - Uxbridge Road Jct. 2m 1c; Willesden High Level Jct. - Mitre Bridge Jct. 0m 42c.

N.B. Willesden High Level Jct. - Mitre Bridge Jct. is not recorded, as far as I can ascertain, in any publications as closing to passenger services. However, Bradshaw Aug 1940 453 shows the bulk of the trains from High Level and only one train from the Main Line platforms, so strictly speaking this entry should be Willesden High Level Junction - Uxbridge Rd. Jct. (and Willesden No.1 (West London) Jct. - Mitre Bridge Jct.) to better reflect the pattern of services provided. Furthermore, RAGB 1992 p20 shows this section of line as red - freight only. RAGB 1996 onwards shows this line as black - passenger services. PSUL does not record this line. Any information welcome.
