This section of line is interesting as it seems to have been overlooked in all previous publications on the subject.
This short line along with the section beyond to Tapton Jct. was the 'Old Route' of the North Midland/Midland Railway to Chesterfield and beyond. Its status was reduced with the opening of the main line south from Sheffield (Midland) in 1870. It did see occasional use by express trains avoiding Sheffield and by seasonal dated services, but its RTS was the curious Chesterfield - Sheffield via Treeton & Holmes service. Most of these trains avoided Rotherham (Masborough) but, throughout the 1900s to closure, Sunday trains ran via Rotherham (Masborough). They disappeared from the Jul 1948 timetable onwards, so this service appears to have ceased sometime between then and Mar 1947.
PSUL 2008 p21 shows "SATURDAYS FROM 13 SEPTEMBER 2008: 1807 SO York - St.Pancras", so this line RO - Sat 13/09/2008. It would appear that this train ceased to run sometime up to the end of the 2008/9 timetable. Confirmation needed.
