The original pier station at Port Victoria became increasingly unsafe due to the effects of marine worm. From 1916 the line was progressively cut back from the seaward end until eventually the whole structure was declared unsafe. In 1931 a 'temporary' wooden platform was provided on the landward side, approximately 10c short of the original station bufferstops. See 'Railway twilight in the Hundred of Hoo' RM Feb 1962 p93 & Isle of Grain Railways LP77 OP 1974.
