ACD - Mon 23/11/1953. LTR - Sun 22/11/1953. Line 'officially' closed from Mon 14/11/1953, but "for some strange reason the 'Rattler' continued to operate for the general public for just one more week beyond this...." "Sunday 22d November, 1953 saw the final 'Rattler' service..." A copy of an NCB public notice states "... discontinue the passenger train service on this railway from Monday, 23rd November, 1953". OP below p56.
PNM 1980 p85 gives ACD - Fri 20/11/1953. RPSGB states "replaced by bus service 16 November 1953".
*Station closed when new deviation was opened in 1926 (RPSGB)/1929 (Cobb) . Replaced by 'renamed' Whitburn Colliery station (see below).
**'New' station, actually rebuilt (originally non-tt) Whitburn Colliery RN Marsden, though station sported 'Whitburn Colliery' nameboards to closure - OP The South Shields, Marsden & Whitburn Colliery Railway OL120 2002 p42; RPSGB p530.
