Further Notes

ACD - Mon 02/03/1959 - PNM 1980 p84. No Sunday service, LTR - Sat 28/02/1959.

*RCH L 1902. Estimated mileage. The section of line between Acton Town South Jct. and the divergence point shared the same formation as the main line towards Turnham Green for approximately 23c.

**RPSGB records South Acton (Dist.) as a closure and separate from South Acton (NSWJ) which is still open. The District Line platforms were at a higher level but adjacent to the NSWJ station. See http://www.abandonedstations.org.uk/South_Acton_station.html for some interesting photos and information on this short section of line.

***Whether the even shorter section of line north of South Acton (Dist.) to South Acton North Jct. ever carried passenger services is uncertain. I have seen unconfirmed references to through trains to/from Hammersmith & Chiswick. The letter published in RM Mar 1959 p209 frustratingly makes references to "service timetables" of the N&SWJR, of trains running "when required" from Willesden and Brent. Unfortunately it is not clear exactly what a "service timetable" is, Working or Public, nor specifically whether these trains were for public use or, as stated elsewhere, "stores or ballast trains".  As the correspondent states they were worked by "pilotman" it seems unlikely they were for passenger use. The line was removed 1930-2 when the rest of this section was reduced to single track.

Any information/clarification welcome.

See RM Dec 1958 p817-22 'The South Acton and Aldwych Branch Lines' and RM Mar 1959 p209 & 212.

All this for 24c of railway!
