Further Notes

OCD - Mon 18/04/1966 - BLN 53 p1PNM 1980 p89

However, BLN 179 p75 states "Only train without a booked stop at Troon the 11 26 Glasgow/Stranraer Harbour was diverted via Troon Passenger from 18.4.66 (see BLN 53); a passing time being shown at Troon station. On the subsequent closure of the signal box at Troon, the passing time in the Working Timetable was altered and is now shown at Barassie, thus the train is un-routed through Troon. In practise, it normally runs via the Avoiding line".

It would appear this section of line continued in use, unofficially(?), after its official closure. This is confirmed by PSUL 1982-3 p22 which states "11 35 Glasgow Cen - Stranraer Hbr     14 54 SX Carlisle (D 10 15 SX Euston)/Stranraer Hbr (AIthough these trains are "booked" to run via Troon, and have been since April 1966, they usually run this route, as long as Lochgreen Jn signal box is open (Closes 1350 on Saturdays). This procedure will, however, cease on completion of Barassie Re-signalling, due Autumn 1982.)".  Also in subsequent editions of BLN, in particular BLN 451 p225, reporting on the Barassie Resignalling and the consequential closure of the Troon avoiding line. This is confirmed by PSUL 1982-3 amendments p8
