Further Notes

ACD - Mon 27/06/1966 - PNM 1980 p46. LTR - Sun 26/06/1966 (see below).

Interesting to note that the BR (ScR) timetable from 18/04/1966 Table 9 shows services operating to/from Glasgow (Central). A boxed note at the head of each page (except Sundays) states that, unless  noted otherwise, all trains will operate to/from St. Enoch station until further notice. This implies the original planned closure date for St. Enoch station was from Monday 18/04/1966 and the timetable was printed in anticipation of this, although St. Enoch does appear in the index.

As mentioned, the note does not appear on the Sunday service pages, suggesting trains operated to/from Central as planned. However, RM Aug 1966 p477 'Glasgow Central's 900 trains a day' in Notes and News clearly states that the last train ran on Sunday 26/06/1966, stating that "The last passenger train into St. Enoch - a diesel train from Ayr - reached Platform 2 at 22.43....." According to the timetable this would have been the 21 40 from Ayr.
