Local service withdrawn from Mon 07/07/1958 and intermediate stations closed.

The line continued to be used by 'express' trains via Guide Bridge and Sheffield (Victoria) These services were progressively withdrawn or rerouted until by 1969 the only remaining trains using this line were the 0935 Weekdays Liverpool (Lime St.) - Guide Bridge via Manchester (Central) and 1245 Weekdays Guide Bridge - Manchester (Central) (SX to Liverpool (Lime St.)).
