*RCH SW 1926. The RCH map is misleading in its representation of the layout of the two Cymmer stations. It clearly shows them as distinctly separate with clear lines of route connecting them. In reality, the Rhondda & Swansea Bay station (Afan, north) and the GWR station (General, south) were parts of the same station. The two stations were formerly amalgamated in Jan 1950 as Cymmer Afan. Further changes took place when, from 13/06/1960, two new connections were brought into use allowing the closure of a section of the R&SB line by incorporating part of the GWR branch to Abergwynfi in the line of route from Cymmer towards Treherbert. The line beyond the newly created Gelli Jct. to Abergwynfi closed on the same date. (See Cymmer Afan East Jct. - Jct. Gelli Jct. (new spur) and Gelli Jct. (new spur) - Abergwynfi. The two OS map details above showing before and after remodelling at Cymmer Afan will hopefully clarify the matter.
**Correct Welsh spelling. Anglicised version Llynvi and also, erroneously, Llynffi used in official titles.
