PSUL 1977-8 amendments p5 states "Regular services over this route between Liverpool Lime Street (high level) and Southport, in connection with London services, were intended to be withdrawn from 9 (sic) May 1977 (with opening of the new Liverpool deep level loop line) but a service continued to run via this route until finally withdrawn from 8 May 1978 upon opening of Moorfields".
