Further Notes
Local service withdrawn from Mon 01/01/1968 and closure of remaining intermediate stations.
CL - Mon 07/10/1968; RO 01/05/1972 - PNM 1980 p70.
RHRGB Vol.8 South & West Yorkshire p264 gives CL 07/10/1968 and RO 07/05/1973.
PSUL 1972-73 amendments p1 states: "Normanton Goose Hill Junction - Wath Road Junction: add: {new entry – reopened 1 May 1972} From 7 May 1973 section Oakenshaw South Junction – Wath Road Junction became regular route for main-line trains between Sheffield and Leeds, and for trains between Sheffield and York not booked to stop at Pontefract Baghill; section Goose Hill Junction – Oakenshaw South Junction became regular route for main-line trains between Sheffield and Leeds not booked to call at Wakefield, and between Sheffield and York not booked to stop at Pontefract Baghill".
Some clarification required here to explain the two different RO dates.
ACD - Mon 04/10/1982 - RoCR; RHRGB Vol.8 South & West Yorkshire p264.
However, though PSUL 1982-83 p8 would appear to confirm this date, "from 4 October - NRU", PSUL 1982-83 amendments p3 states that "most remaining trains diverted from Cudworth route, leaving Friday only and diversionary service by this route", (this route being Wath Rd. Jct. - Oakenshaw South Jct. - Wakefield East Jct.). PSUL 1983-84 amendments p3 states "regular use resumed from Friday 20 May 1983; 1246 FO Portsmouth Harbour advertised 1245 and only booked this route to enable 1328 Paignton – Leeds – Newcastle to precede". What was the "Friday only" train from 1982 to 1983? The Portsmouth - Leeds train was a RTS undated service and does not appear in subsequent PSULs.
Oakenshaw South Jct. - Goose Hill Jct. appears to have been served only by SDS from 04/10/1982.
Finally(!), PSUL 1986-87 amendments p4 states "service over section Swinton Junction – Oakenshaw South Junction - Oakenshaw Junction ceased after 1986 summer season - last ran 26/27 September 1986" and "service over section Oakenshaw South Junction – Goosehill Junction ceased after 1986 summer season - last ran 30 August 1986".
OCD - Mon 01/06/1987 - BLN 570 p275/87-7. ""After all statutory procedures" the line from Goose Hill Junction, Normanton, to Swinton Junction via Cudworth was closed from 1 June 1987".
