ACD - Mon 24/01/1994 - Consent was granted for closure under Section 56 (7) of the Transport Act 1962 - BLN 721 p10/94-50.
This section of line is of interest insomuch as it was not only involved in the protracted closure process involving the OA&GB Jct. - Ashton Moss South Jct. and Ashton Moss South Jct. - Denton Jct. lines, but also because it would appear that it did not carry a RTS prior to the closure to all traffic from 05/05/1969 (BLN 124 p1) of the Droylsden Jct. - Ashton Moss Jct. line. Any services operating between Droylsden and Denton would normally have used the direct route via Audenshaw and not via Ashton Moss.
The line was regularly used by SDS and occasional RTS until 14/05/1989. From Mon 15/05/1989 the only service operating was the 1040 SX Stockport - Manchester (Victoria). From Mon 13/05/1991 this became the 1040 FO Stockport - Manchester (Victoria). At some time prior to May 1992 this train became the 0910 SO Stockport - Manchester (Victoria) which ran until final closure. It is probably safe to assume that these latter-day trains were "Section 56" trains run purely to avoid closure procedures.
